The movie Animal Farm is about animals taking over Manor Farm, which is a farm ruled by the constantly drunk Mr. Jones. The old pig, Old Major, gathers all the animals. He tells them to revolt against Jones and to take control of the farm for themselves, calling for a life of equality and prosperity. Old Major dies, but the revolution still succeeds. In the beginning the pigs, Napoleon and Snowball, are working together as a team with all the other animals. They make seven commandments to make sure that all animals are equal and free from the human beings. Throughout the movie they start fighting against each other to get the power themselves. After a while Napoleon chases Snowball away from the farm and a dictatorial community develops. Some of the commandments are being changed. The commandments now allow the animals (or some of the animals) to act more like humans.
Years later, Napoleon's plan has proven so successful that pigs in other farms have joined his cause. During a meeting of the pigs the donkey Benjamin realizes that the animals have been cheated on by the pigs. Benjamin starts a new revolution against the pigs, and in the end they defeat Napoleon and his killer-dogs. The dictatorship has come to an end, and a new life for the animals is to begin.

Comment on the themes:
The main theme in the story is freedom. All the animals wish to be free of suppression and bad conditions. To reach this freedom they start to live under their own new ideology – animalism. Animalism is in many ways the same as communism. There are many common elements from the old closed Russia and Animal Farm. For example the pig Napoleon, who takes the full control of the farm, and it show a way of this dictatorship.
Other themes could be dictatorship, communism, socialism, anarchism and The Russian Revolution.
