Today’s program is:
1. Faith – group work
2. Talk on class
3. Grammar
1. Faith:
· What’s the setting of the story?
The story takes place in London, middleclass.
· The relationship between Sarah and Paul:
They have reached the dead end of their relationship. Based on routines. Paul wants a family life, but Sarah isn’t sure. They’re stocked (p. 46). Every day-life has become boring. Baby project keeps them together (p. 47)
· How Sarah does feels about getting pregnant?
She cannot make up her mind about whether or not she wants to get pregnant with Paul or not.
· Who is holding back? Why?
She is the one who is holding back, because she does not love Paul.
· Examples of appearance being important:
-
· Why does Brian climb the roof?
It is to make a statement and to show his dissatisfaction.
Brian represents the wild and impulsive. He is spontaneous, enthuastic.
He has two boys and they both have 11 names (11 as a football team).
· Why is Sarah “intrigued” by Brian?
He makes decisions, he is brave, he is passionate, he believes in faith.
· Why does Sarah leave Paul? What happens afterwards?
She was not happy. There was a hole in her that he would never be able to fill.
Afterwards she gets pregnant with her friends brother.
· Discuss the title:
Two kinds of faith:
When she lives with Paul she gambles. She allows the faith to make things happen (pregnant or not? – she has no control).
After she meets Brian, she decides to change life. She starts to make her own choices. You need to have faith in yourself to achieve.
2. Grammar: Grammar exercises from last time (Det danske man).
